Nice Life with Female Charisma - Focus on Customs Female Officers for March 8 Women’s Day
[Wang Hua]: I was told that you became a volunteer at the age of 6 during the Tangshan Earthquake. 03/07/2014 10:46:39
[Yang Jie]: It was a special period. Rather than being a volunteer at the age of 6, I, together with my brother, was a little assistant to my parents after the earthquake took place. Both my parents were doctors. After the quake, they pulled us out from the collapsed house, and instantly took us to the hospital where they worked, starting to rescue the injured on the ruins. 03/07/2014 10:47:00
[Yang Jie]: During the Tangshan Earthquake, nearly two thirds of the people in that city died or got injured. In such case, I and my brother who could walk and had good hands were the minority. In such emergency with a shortage of helpers, my father could only arrange me as his little assistant and my elder brother as my mother’s assistant. We were busy in rescuing, sending water, looking for food and caring for the injured. We had no choice but started a period of hard days. 03/07/2014 10:47:24
[Yang Jie]: For years after the earthquake, students in Tangshan would work as volunteers at the paraplegia convalescent hospitals during the holidays, helping the hospitals with some sanitary work, reading books to patients or helping the patients with what they could do. Perhaps when the disaster hit, people hung together and cared for each other. The Tangshan people have paid lots for today’s face of the city. 03/07/2014 10:47:49
[Wang Hua]: As a witness of the earthquake, this memory must have given you much influence? 03/07/2014 10:48:01
[Yang Jie]: The memory is imprinted in my heart and I will never forget it. 03/07/2014 10:48:10
[Wang Hua]: When it comes to the voluntary activities, we have Zhang Zhe, a star volunteer selected in Beijing Customs District, with us today. First, let’s look at an online question to her. 03/07/2014 10:48:19
[Net Friend: Pianruojinghong]: Zhang Zhe, how did start to devote yourself to the public good? What are the causes leading you to the cause of charity and public good? 03/07/2014 10:10:03
[Zhang Zhe]: I started to be a volunteer accidentally. One day I saw a notice on Beijing Youth Daily: a foundation was recruiting volunteers to help the old on a long-term basis. Merely out of curiosity, I called to enquire about the matter. At that time, “volunteer” was still a very new term and I came there without any clear idea about it. My service target was Guo Xue. I call her Aunt Guo. We became one-to-one soul companion and I promised to serve her for one year. At the beginning, I knew little about Aunt Guo, and I felt she is very amicable. Later, every time when I called on her, I felt her expectation and deep affection, and started to concern more and more about her. I was thinking of finding some time to visit her even if I was busy. Gradually I became a long-term volunteer. 03/07/2014 10:50:53
[Wang Hua]: Zhang Zhe has a loving heart. However, I think it requires not only a loving heart but also extraordinary patience and considerateness to take care of the elder. Most people do not have such patience or considerateness. What about you? 03/07/2014 10:50:59
