[Yang Jie]: No, it was very difficult for me at the beginning. I even thought of quitting the job, but finally I was determined to stay, chose to adapt to the environment and my new job role as soon as possible. 03/07/2014 10:12:26

[Yang Jie]: Passenger inspection, just as the words suggest, refers to the inspection over passengers. We inspect whether a passenger carries any articles prohibited or restricted from entering or leaving China by the State, as well as to publicize the entry-and-exit administrative regulations of the State to the passengers. 03/07/2014 10:13:46
[Wang Hua]: For entry and exit, the passengers will be inspected by the Customs as well as by the border defense. Xiaoyan, can you tell us the difference between the duties of the two departments? 03/07/2014 10:14:48
[Yang Xiaoyan]: To put it simple, the border defense inspects people and the Customs inspect articles. The passenger inspection is to supervise the luggage and articles carried by passengers. However, since we have to face passengers directly in our work, it is also a job of dealing with people. On one hand, as the passenger inspection is a type of administrative enforcement, it requires us to abide by the law in our work to realize the Customs supervision; on the other hand, as it involves contacts with many passengers, it also requires us to show a good image of the Customs. In a word, a passenger inspection officer must fulfill his or her job duties politely and according to the law. [Yang Xiaoyan]: Actually, I feel I am just an ordinary customs office. Like many other customs officers at the frontline and the grassroots, I do the most ordinary work at a grassroots post. For the title of “People’s Favorite Public Servant”, I want to thank the State and the Customs for the trainings and education they have provided for me over the years. [Wang Hua]: Well, Xiaoyan is very modest. Here I’d like to share with you some information about Xiaoyan. She joined the Customs in 1982, and has worked at Luohu Customs House for 32 years. At her fifth year of work, she was awarded the title of “Excellent Worker of the Customs”. Later, she was successively honored by All-China Women Federation as “Top Ten National Models of Women’s Contribution” and “National Woman Pace-setter”, and recently won the 8th Award of “People’s Favorite Public Servant”. [Yang Xiaoyan]: A person may have many dreams when he or she is young. When I joined the Customs, I did not know much about the occupation of a customs officer. I only knew that everyone could achieve his or her value of life through an ordinary occupation. The key is to face and deal with your job with a responsible mind. It is said that the job of passenger inspection is hard and boring. I have done this job for 32 years. My feeling is that as long as you settle down your mind and focus on studying your job, you will find much pleasure, and through the job, you can also temper your will, gain wisdom, and hone your skills on dealing with people. 03/07/2014 10:19:36
