Nice Life with Female Charisma - Focus on Customs Female Officers for March 8 Women’s Day
[Wang Hua]: Many customs officers are just like you. They have been working hard and without any complaint at ordinary posts related to passenger inspection, verification, anti-smuggling, inspection, statistics and accounting all their life. Well, Yang Jie, you have been in service at the post of passenger inspection for years. As a grassroots customs officer, what do you think of such occupation as public servants? 03/07/2014 10:21:52
[Yang Jie]: For public servants, it is their responsibility to perform the official duties according to the law. At most times, it’s not you to select a post; instead, the post requires your persistence and devotion. Furthermore, each post may show its unique “tiredness”. For instance, Zhang Zhe, as an accountant, may deal with figures and forms day after day and year after year, and have to work overtime frequently. She may feel tired, too. 03/07/2014 10:23:36
[Wang Hua]: It’s true although your words are simple. They tell the heart-felt wishes of the customs people and numerous workers engaging in different occupations. Just as the old saying goes “one can be a master in any trade”, regardless of your occupation and post, as long as you devote yourself to it, and stick to it and work hard, you will feel it is worthwhile. 03/07/2014 10:23:50
[Wang Hua]: Xiaoyan, can you tell us how many people enter into and exit from China through Luohu Port every day? 03/07/2014 10:25:41
[Yang Xiaoyan]: At Luohu Port, the daily office hour for customs clearance is from 06:30 in the morning to 24:00 at midnight. Within the 17.5 hours, the average daily entry/exit counts about 250,000 person-times or even 300,000 person-times at the peak seasons. We have to supervise and check the luggage and articles of so many passengers. It’s easy to imagine our workload. After a day’s work, we often feel so tired that we cannot straight our backs. 03/07/2014 10:25:49
[Wang Hua]: From your figures, we can know there are nearly 15,000 people to enter or leave China every hour and over 200 people every minute! During the office hours, you have to keep on scanning” so many people with your eyes. I think many people would get dazzled and even feel dizzy. I used to experience the situation in your place, and felt for vomiting just after one-hour standing. 03/07/2014 10:28:49
[Yang Xiaoyan]: Yes. I was also unable to stand the work at the beginning, but later I got used to it. I think the interest is the biggest motive. At the beginning, I felt it’s extremely dull to stand at the passenger inspection channel. However, as I discovered several cases, I gradually felt this job is very significant and also had some sense of achievements. Step by step, I have become more interested in my job and felt it worthwhile no matter how tiring it was. 03/07/2014 10:29:03
[Yang Jie]: What makes me feel most exhausted is that we have to be under great pressure at work. For one single shift, we have to work for 12 hours. In addition to working for 12 hours, we also have to be in great tension at the time of lunch and supper, because there are many flights at such time and more people with high risks. Many cases are detected at such time. Many passenger inspection officers will have trouble with their stomach as they cannot enjoy their meals in a relaxing manner. 03/07/2014 10:31:29
[Yang Jie]: However, our efforts will be rewarded. Every time when we track down a case, the customs officers will feel very happy and cheerful for a while. Our workplace is just like a battle field without smoke of gunpowder, where you cannot be careless or relaxed and have to go on working even if you feel much tired. 03/07/2014 10:31:42
[Wang Hua]: It is really very hard. I think your post is like the post of those soldiers guarding the frontier. To safeguard the state gateway, you have to hang in there no matter how hard and tiring it is. As there are so many people passing through the port every day, how can you detect the smugglers? 03/07/2014 10:33:17
