[Yang Xiaoyan]: For instance, once I saw a man walking with crutches. I found his way of walking was different from other disabled people: his cripple seemed exaggerated. Then, I placed more attention on him and found he moved his eyes swiftly and always avoided eye contact with me, and it was obvious that he took a roundabout route to avoid the customs officers. According to my experience, this man was definitely suspicious and should be checked carefully. So I stopped him and found HK$ 1.68 million hidden on him. 03/07/2014 10:34:26

[Yang Xiaoyan]: I think, firstly, it is necessary to cultivate the consciousness of anti-smuggling and keep mentally alert from time to time; secondly, it is necessary to collect the latest information continuously, carry out the risk analysis and determine the investigation focus; thirdly, it is necessary to enhance the inspection skills based on the field survey and practice, constantly summarize the experience and share the information. 03/07/2014 10:36:35

[Yang Xiaoyan]: There is a good tradition at Luohu Customs House that generations of officers there will pass their accumulated experience in smuggling inspection down to the young customs officers without any reservation through “Section Chief Forum”, “Business Forum” and other means. In such way, our officers can learn and improve together. This also inspires our enthusiasm for work and creates an excellent atmosphere for competition at work. [Yang Xiaoyan]: I have also benefited much from such a tradition. When joining the Customs in 1982, I was quite unfamiliar with the business. With the help and guidance form my tutor and the seniors, I grew up gradually. Later, I have a sense of sharing what I learnt and acquired with my colleagues unconsciously. For instance, organize colleagues to study the business documents regularly; take notes of what I have learned every day and discuss it with colleagues at meetings; teach and interpret the skills to the new officers hand by hand. 03/07/2014 10:37:58
[Yang Xiaoyan]: In addition, under the arrangement of the Customs House, we also held the “Yang Xiaoyan” Training Program on a small scale for the backbone customs officers of Luohu Customs House, other associated customs houses and the Customs House at Beijing Airport.
