On March 25, Xiamen Airport Customs intercepted an inbound passenger carrying 162 bags of frozen human milk in one box, totaling 21.7 kilograms, during inspection of the Taipei-Xiamen flight No. AE967.
According to regulations, human milk belongs to special articles. The entry of such articles must be subject to quarantine and declaration processes based on relevant documents and prior approval, and the package must meet biosafety standards.
Customs officers found the passenger without relevant formalities and the frozen milk was put in a simple heat-insulated box, thus the origin of the milk cannot be confirmed and the requirement of cold-chain transportation cannot be met. Therefore, the milk tended to spoilage and bacterial contamination, posing great threat to infant health.
So far, the Customs has destroyed this batch of frozen human milk.
