Recently in Nanjing Customs District, 1.055 kilogram of American ginseng products were seized in four inbound parcels at Suzhou Post Office, which were falsely declared as “condiments” for the purpose of concealment. Since this year, Suzhou Customs House has seized 13 batches, 7 kilograms of American ginseng products in inward posts.
American ginseng, a kind of medicinal herb in China, is listed in Appendix Ⅱ of the “Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora” (CITES). Therefore, such plant are subject to Import/Export Permit issued by Endangered Species Management Office of China. Without the Permit, the entry and exit in any way are prohibited and, in the smuggling case, subject to relevant legal liability.
