Customs officers inspect the Asian elephants in quarantine.
Recently, under the escort of Guiyang Customs officers, 4 Asian elephants from Laos were delivered to the entry quarantine station of Guizhou Forest Wildlife Park, through 1,300-kilometers road transportation.
To ensure the import of elephants into Guizhou Province, Guiyang Customs District earlier set up a special workgroup, with professionals conducting the quarantine, promoting regulatory policies to relevant enterprises and helping prepare the quarantine station; meanwhile, it actively collaborated with the Customs stationed at the port of entry in streamlining the import procedures, so as to clear the 4 elephants as fast as possible.
During the next 30 days of quarantine period, Guiyang Customs officers will intensify epidemic prevention, feeding management and safety monitoring for the elephants in the quarantine station.
Asian elephant, listed in Appendix Ⅰ of the CITES (Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora), belongs to China’s first-class protected wild animals. Guizhou has imported 16 Asian elephants from abroad.
